HOST FAMILIES NEEDED FOR 2019
The Washington Wild Things are looking for host families for the 2019 season. Host families invite a professional baseball player into their home for the duration of the season (May-September).
Because minor league baseball players are paid on a seasonal basis, the Wild Things need host families to help reduce the players’ financial burden on these players who are pursuing their professional baseball dreams. Each host family provides a player with a stable, clean, and healthy living environment. The family is asked to provide a private bedroom, and access to kitchen, bathroom and laundry facilities.
To ensure a good experience for both host families and players, the Wild Things organization takes extra care in matching players with prospective hosts. Some of the considerations include:
Most families host one player; however, some host families who have the facilities welcome two or more players into their homes. Host families must be committed to hosting for the entire season. For those who are considering having a player but unsure, we welcome you to host players for spring training (about two weeks).
Families need to be aware that the players will not be home every day. The team spends half of the season on the road for away games. When they are home, they will spend a great deal of time at the ballpark for practice and games.
Families also need to know they will be part of the players' life, and must be prepared to deal with their daily trials of balancing baseball, school, family. Players and families typically form connections that last a lifetime!
Host families receive tickets for the entire year, along with other benefits including an end-of-the-season host family picnic prior to a Wild Things game!
