Team Veteran Andrew Heck Returns for the 2016 Season
The Washington Wild Things have announced that outfielder Andrew Heck is back on the roster for 2016. The Pittsburgh native has played in the Frontier League since 2012. Most of his time with the league has been spent as a member of the Washington Wild Things.
Heck appeared in 48 games for the Wild Things last season. He registered 50 hits with a .299 batting average. The veteran led the team in batting average and OBP.
In his first season in the Frontier League, he batted .310 in 67 games and tallied 14 doubles and 27 RBI. He finished second in the voting for Rookie of the Year in 2012.
During his time with the Wild Things, he holds a career batting average of .293 and has 146 hits in 146 games.
The North Hills native is known as a utility player and has performed in numerous roles for the team. As part of his 2014 season with the Wild Things, Heck assumed the role of first base coach.
During his collegiate career, Heck played for Duquesne University in Pittsburgh for 3 years before the program was discontinued. He was an A10 All-Conference Selection and ranked among the top in program history with 91 hits and 25 doubles. He finished his collegiate career at Oklahoma State University.
The outfielder spends his time off pursuing coaching in the sport. Heck was named the head coach of Sewickley Academy Baseball in 2013. He led the Pittsburgh area high school team to the WPIAL semifinals for the first time in program history in 2014.
