Washington, PA (August 18, 2016) – Wild Things’ pitcher, Zac Grotz’s contract was sold to the Los Angeles Dodgers, according to officials. In the midst of the Wild Things’ push into the 2016 Frontier League Playoff Series, they have continued to move players to the next level.

“Zac has earned and deserves this opportunity with the Dodgers,” said field manager Gregg Langbehn. “He has had an outstanding season for us in a variety of roles. He has excellent command of all his pitches, works effectively down in the zone and is willing to pitch inside. We wish him great success in his next journey.”

The Dodgers purchased the rights to Grotz, just two weeks after Washington sent RHP Trevor Foss to the Cleveland Indians’ organization.

Grotz, a 28th round selection of the Astros in 2015, joined Washington following a stellar season with Greeneville and Tri-City. Grotz brought his dominance to a whole different level in 2016 in the Frontier League, posting a 1.36 ERA, striking out 51 batters in 46 innings.

The San Mateo native began the season in Washington’s strong stable of bullpen arms until recently, when he shouldered his first start in professional baseball and defeating the Windy City Thunderbolts.

“My time with the Wild Things has been a great one all around. The fans have been awesome and very supportive and I’m really going to miss going out early and interacting with them, as well as playing catch with their kids,” said Grotz. “We have, in my eyes, the best coaching staff with their knowledge and ability to make baseball fun throughout a long season. My teammates have made this journey an absolute blast, which I will cherish along with memories and friendships that will last a lifetime. I’m really excited about this opportunity with the Dodgers organization. It’s quite ironic, growing up a Giants fan and being rivals with the Dodgers, and now to be a part of their organization. I bleed blue now and look forward to being part of the Dodger organization for a long time. Lastly, I want to wish everyone on Washington a great rest of the season and to go out and cheer on your Things. Help them with their playoff push!”

The Wild Things will complete a six game road trip Thursday night in Traverse City, MI before returning to CONSOL Energy Park to host the Schaumburg Boomers for three games starting Friday night.
