Wild Things Ink Tallest Professional LHP
The Washington Wild Things announced Monday they have signed the tallest player in professional baseball! Cole Way, a left-handed reliever, is 6’ 11’ tall. He was selected by the Kansas City Royals in the 38th round and spent three seasons with the 2015 World Series Champions.
Way, an Oklahoma native, has had a very unique path to professional baseball. Like most, Cole was a standout athlete in high school where he played multiple sports at a high level. He attended the University of Tulsa on a football scholarship as a punter, but his love of baseball never diminished. Despite handling kickoff, punting and PAT/FG duties for the Golden Hurricanes in 2014, Cole shifted his focus back to baseball. The University of Tulsa does not have a varsity baseball team, but after a few private workouts Way began to garner the attention of several scouts. In June of 2014, Cole was selected by Kansas City, and he began his journey with the Burlington Royals.
In his three seasons with Kansas City affiliates, Cole has notched five wins in 28 appearances out of the bullpen. He shouldered 53 innings of work and struck out 49 batters between the Appalachian/Pioneer League.
