Sponsor Spotlight: Washington Financial

As the Washington Wild Things celebrate their 15 years of Frontier League baseball, several partners deserved to be recognized. Washington Financial has been involved with the Wild Things’ organization since the very beginning of the entire Frontier League project….actually, they were involved BEFORE the Wild Things!

When the ballpark plans were being put in place….before it had been determined that the Frontier League would settle here in Washington….before the Wild Things’ name had been established, Washington Financial (then known as Washington Federal) partnered with the organization and were a part of a banking consortium which financed the construction of the park. In addition they offered “seed” money from their Philanthropic coffers to ensure the project would come to fruition.

When the team was established and announced in November of 2001, Washington Financial stepped up to the plate even further by becoming the presenting team sponsor. On May 29, 2002 the Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Federal, opened their inaugural season at Falconi Field in front of a sell-out crowd that included then Governor Mark Schweitzer.

Washington Federal’s {then} president Dick White even dawned a baseball uniform that bore the Washington Federal logo when the team unveiled the team’s new look!

For 15 years, Washington Financial has supported the organization by hosting clients and staff in their own private suite or using their season tickets, by purchasing signage and advertising throughout the park.

“It has been a delight working with the folks from Washington Financial over the years,” said team owner Stu Williams. “They are community-oriented, and they have supported us throughout the years. We will always be grateful to our friends at Washington Financial.”

As the Wild Things begin their 16th season, Washington Financial will sponsor (among other things) Throw Back Thursdays. The team will wear retro uniforms that are identical to those they wore in 2002. At the end of the season, those team jerseys will be auctioned off to the public with all proceeds benefiting a charity of Washington Financial’ s choice.

The Wild Things look forward to another 15 seasons of Wild Things’ baseball and partners like Washington Financial!
