Wild Things and Thunderbolts Halted in Home Opener

WASHINGTON, PA – The Washington Wild Things (4-2) started a three-game series with the Windy City Thunder Bolts (3-3) Friday, May 19, 2017 at the Wild Things Park. The series serves as the opening weekend celebration for the Wild Things, who are starting their 15th season.

RHP Chase Cunningham (1-0) started on the mound for the Wild Things. In the outing, he pitched seven shutout innings, allowed only four hits and struck out four batters.

The game remained scoreless until the sixth, when a single by Rashad Brown kicked off a great inning for the Wild Things. Mike Hill then walked, and Bralin Jackson produced a base hit - these at bats allowed the Wild Things to gain a 1-0 lead. Shortly after, a base hit from Kane Sweeney scored Hill, giving the Wild Things a 2-0 lead.

RHP Joe Ravert came in to relieve Cunningham in the top of the eighth, pitching a scoreless performance as well. The top of the ninth included another pitching change by the Wild Things; allowing RHP Zach Strecker to enter the mound. The Thunderbolts then answered with three runs of their own.

A leadoff double by Brailin Jackson in the bottom of the ninth put a runner in scoring positon, and he was quickly brought home by an RBI single off the bat of Kane Sweeney, tying the game 3-3 in the bottom of the ninth inning.

Due to inclement weather, the game was sent to a rain delay and called shortly after with a score of 3-3.
