AVON, Ohio – The Washington Wild Things (18-15) defeated the Lake Erie Crushers (13-21) in the first game of their three-game series Tuesday, June 20.

Trevor Foss (4-3) got the start on the mound, earning the win by allowing four runs on six hits and adding five strike outs in seven innings pitched. Only two of the runs Foss surrendered were earned.

The Wild Things started off the game quickly, with the first three men reaching base and then scoring on a grand slam from first baseman Kane Sweeney, putting Washington up 4-0 in the first inning.

The Crushers were able to slowly crawl back into the game in their next five innings of work. In the bottom of the first, they got one back off an RBI double from designated hitter Brandon Murray, and then another in the second as first baseman Josh McAdams scored on a 6-3 groundout. With the score at 4-2, the Crushers plated two runs in the bottom of the fifth off a hit and a Wild Things error to tie the game at four.

Washington was able to break the tie in the top of the eighth inning, as center fielder Rashad Brown led off with a double and was then plated as Justin Bohn reached on an error, giving the Wild Things a 5-4 lead.

In the bottom of the ninth, the Crushers were threatening as right fielder Parker Norris led off with a walk, bringing the winning run to the plate in the form of second baseman Jordan Dean, who singled and advanced Norris to second with no outs. Zach Strecker was then able to set the next three batters down in order to earn the four-out save and preserve the 5-4 Wild Things win.

The Wild Things will look to win the series in game two tomorrow, Wednesday, June 21, with first pitch slated for 7:05 p.m.
