SCHAUMBURG, Ill. - The Washington Wild Things (20-17) fell to the Schaumburg Boomers (28-10) in the second game of the weekend set in Schaumburg, Illinois, Saturday. The Boomers used six runs in the first two innings to build a hole which the Wild Things weren’t able to climb out of.

Zack Tillery made his Wild Things’ debut on the mound, getting the start, and he struggled. Tillery walked three and surrendered four hits in just 1.1 innings. The starter was charged with six runs, as Schaumburg scored in the first on a three-run home run by David Harris and in the second on two run-scoring hits: a single by Sean Godfrey and a two-run double by Zack Weigel.

Trailing 3-0 heading to the top of the second, Washington got a run on an RBI triple by right fielder Kenny Peoples-Walls, before picking up a run to make the score 6-2 in the fourth when second baseman Alex Fernandez walked with the bases loaded.

Schaumburg added a run in the fifth when Aaron Burns balked with a runner on third, which made it 7-2, before Washington picked up two of its own in the sixth, one on a Kyle Pollock home run and one on a wild pitch that plated shortstop Trevin Sonnier.

Alex Luna picked up the win from the bullpen for Schaumburg, tossing four innings in relief of the starter Preston Jamison, who walked four and gave up five hits in his outing. Luna tossed four innings of two-run ball, before Alec Kenilvort earned the save.

For the Wild Things, Aaron Burns threw 5.2 innings in relief, giving up one run on the balk, but otherwise, the right-hander was masterful, holding the Boomers to five hits in that time.

The Wild Things and Boomers play the rubber match of the set tomorrow, Sunday, June 25, with first pitch from Boomers Stadium scheduled for 2 p.m. EST. Trevor Foss pitches for the Wild Things against Kagen Hopkins for Schaumburg.
