Wild Things Drop Opener in Normal, 6-4

NORMAL, Ill. – The Washington Wild Things (26-19) fell to the Normal CornBelters (23-23) on the 4th of July 6-4, in their first game of the three-day road trip.

After two scoreless innings to start the game, the Wild Things were able to get third baseman Mike Hill and designated hitter Kenny Peoples-Walls on base, and then were both driven in on a triple from centerfielder Rashad Brown. Normal got one run back in the bottom frame, but another single by Peoples-Walls in the top of the fourth scored catcher Kyle Pollock and put Washington up by two.

The CornBelters were able to decrease the deficit to one again in the bottom frame, and then took their first lead of the game as first baseman Aaron Dudley hit a two-run homer in their next turn at bat. A double by Justin Fletcher added an insurance run in this inning, putting the score at 5-3 in favor of Normal.

Second baseman Justin Bohn brought the Wild Things back within a run as he homered in the top of the eighth, but Normal answered with a score of their own in the bottom half, cementing their 6-4 victory.

The Wild Things will look for redemption in the second game of the series tomorrow, with first pitch set for 7:35 p.m. EST.
