WASHINGTON, Pa. - Following Wednesday’s partial building collapse in downtown Washington, the Wild Things have announced that 50% of walk-up sales to this weekend’s games will be donated to assist the victims of the collapse.

A rear section of the roof and upper floor of the apartment building at 15 North Main Street, came down before 9 a.m. Wednesday, July 12. Firefighters and emergency crews worked more than nine hours to assist the victims and deeper into the night cleaning up and assessing the damage. City officials, according to the Washington Observer Reporter, plan to demolish the building as soon as possible. A total of eight people were in the building at the time it collapsed. Five got out on their own, two more were extricated quickly and one was rescued by emergency responders some nine hours after the collapse.

“We are deeply saddened by the situation with yesterday’s building collapse,” said Wild Things’ general manager Steven Zavacky. “We know the Red Cross is helping the victims, and as part the Washington County community, we would like to assist the victims of the collapse in any way we can as well.”

The team encourages people to come out to the games this weekend, as 50% of any ticket sales designated as walk-up, will directly benefit the victims of the collapse. Walk-up sales are all tickets that are not pre-sold for the game. Tickets purchased at the box office prior to the games fall under that category.

“Of course we’d like to see a lot of people come out to the games to support the Wild Things, but we want people to come out in support of the victims as one community in Washington,” said Zavacky.

The team will also be accepting donations inside Wild Things Park at all three games as well. All fans can make donations at the Guest Services tent as they enter the park by the right field gate.

The Wild Things play three home games this weekend against the Windy City ThunderBolts. Friday and Saturday’s games start at 7:05 p.m. with fireworks and a free-shirt giveaway to 500 fans scheduled for Friday and a jersey auction and shirt giveaway scheduled for Saturday. Sunday is a kid’s day at Wild Things Park, where kids can run the bases after the game and get autographs from the Wild Things.
