WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Washington Wild Things (44-39) were beaten 6-1 by the Lake Erie Crushers (39-44) in the finale of the three-game weekend series tonight.

The Wild Things used six different pitchers on the day, with Trevor Foss (10-5) starting and getting the loss as he allowed four runs in his three innings of work.

In both previous games of the series the Wild Things allowed two runs in the top of the first inning, and tonight was no exception. On a strange play at home plate, a wild pitch allowed left fielder Sean Hurley to score, and then an error on the throw to the plate from catcher Kyle Pollock plated second baseman Jordan Dean as well. The Wild Things looked to answer quickly in the bottom frame, as the first two batters reached base. Lake Erie ended these hopes quickly as a ground ball to the pitcher ended in a double play and held the lead runner at third. This would set the tone for the rest of the game, as the Wild Things continued to get runners on base, but were unable to plate any of them, until the ninth inning.

The Crushers added to their own lead as the second pitch of the second inning was sent far over the right field fence by designated hitter Brandon Murray, putting the score at 3-0. They then added the three final runs in the next two innings. In the top of the third, first baseman Connor Simonetti sent a home run over the right field wall, this time a two-run shot, and shortstop Tyler Urps added the final Cruhser tally as he singled in Murray in the fourth, putting the score at 6-0 heading into the Wild Things’ final chance at the plate.

Washington looked to rally, as the first three men got on base with nobody out. After a Sweeney strike out, right fielder Hector Roa gave the Wild Things their first run of the day as he reached on a fielder’s choice to the third baseman. This would prove to be the final run as Pollock flied-out deep to left field for out number three.

The Wild Things will continue their homestand with a three-game series against the Schaumburg Boomers on Tuesday, August 22. First pitch i set for 7:05 p.m.
