Wild Things Drop Finale, Fall to 1.5 Games Back of Wild Card

WASHINGTON, Pa. (Aug. 24) – The Washington Wild Things (45-41) fell to the Schaumburg Boomers (59-28) in the rubber match of their three-game series tonight, with a final score of 5-4. Tyler Garkow (1-1) started on the bump for Washington, pitching six innings of four-run baseball, while striking out nine batters. Because of the other results in the league, Washington is now 1.5 games back of the wild card.
The Wild Things jumped out to an early lead as left fielder Bralin Jackson sent a home run directly to the right of centerfield in the first inning. Schaumburg answered in the top of the third as a double from second baseman Andrew Brodbeck plated shortstop John Holland, tying the game. The Boomers then took the lead with a sacrifice fly off the bat of catcher Nick Oddo. In the bottom of the fifth, Washington catcher Kyle Pollock scored on a wild pitch, tying the game for a second time.
The lead switched hands again as Schaumburg centerfielder Sean Godfrey hit a two-run homer to left center in the top of the sixth. They were then able to add an insurance run in top of the eighth as left fielder Jack Parently doubled in Pinkston, putting the score at 5-2.
In the bottom of the ninth, Pollock hit a long two-run homer to left field, tallying the final two runs of the game.
The Wild Things head out on a three-game road trip as they face Windy City. First pitch in game one tomorrow, Friday, August 25, is set for 8:05 p.m. EST.
