WASHINGTON, Pa. - For the second time this season, a player from the Washington Wild Things has been named the Frontier League’s Player of the Week. For the final time this regular season, the league has announced its weekly awards, and has this week honored Wild Things’ outfielder James Harris.

Harris joins Kenny Peoples-Walls as position players to receive the laurels, and is the third Wild Thing to be given a weekly honor, as Chase Cunningham earned a pitcher of the week award earlier this season.

The efforts of Harris didn’t go unnoticed, and were certainly a big part of the 6-1 week the team had, en route to the 800th win in franchise history, clinching a playoff berth and earning the third seed in the 2017 playoffs. Harris was 13-26 in total with three doubles, a triple and a home run in the seven games played against the Joliet Slammers and Traverse City Beach Bums. On top of the five extra-base hits, Harris also scored 10 runs and drove in eighth to go along with three stolen bases.

Four of the five home runs Harris has hit since signing with the Wild Things have led off the game and that was the case in the only loss the team had all week. Friday, a game the Wild Things won for the 800th franchise win, Harris tripled to start a seven-run ninth inning, as the Wild Things went from being down 2-1 to up 8-1. He’d single in a run later in the inning.

At the end of the regular season, despite being signed in early July, Harris has the Wild Things’ best batting average (.299 in 46 games), and has the second highest stolen base total on the team (18).

Harris and the Washington Wild Things will enter the 2017 Frontier League playoffs as the No. 3 seed and will play the West Division Champ Florence Freedom in the Divisional Round, beginning tomorrow, Tuesday, September 5, at 7:05 p.m.

The game, along with game two Wednesday, will be played at Wild Things Park. Tickets are available online and at the box office. Don’t miss your chance to see the reigning Frontier League Player of the Week, James Harris, and the Wild Things compete in the postseason for the first time since 2014. Get your tickets now by calling the box office at 724-250-9555.
