Florence Walks Off To Take 2-1 Series Lead

FLORENCE, Ky. - Washington and Florence met in game three of the Frontier League Divisional Series Friday at UC Health Stadium, and it was Florence who pushed themselves within a win of the championship series, using a walk-off home run from Taylor Oldham to take the third game 5-4.

The scoring started in the second inning as Washington third baseman Mike Hill hit a solo home run to give the Wild Things the lead. It was a lead Washington extended in the third when left fielder Bralin Jackson singled home shortstop Justin Bohn, who walked to open the frame.

In the fourth, Oldham hit his first home run of the game, this one of the two-run variety, to even the game at two apiece. Later in the inning, Keivan Berges hit a solo shot to the opposite field to make it 3-2 in favor of the Freedom.

Second baseman Kyle Reese hit a solo shot to right field to tie the game at three in the seventh, before designated hitter James Harris scored on a stolen base after a throw down to second base attempting to get Rashad Brown was cut off and thrown back home. The catcher dropped the ball, so Washington took a one-run lead.

Florence tied it up again the eighth, scoring on a rare error by Wild Things’ first baseman Kane Sweeney. Oldham homered in the bottom of the ninth with two outs off Zach Strecker to take the third game of the series, 5-4, and a 2-1 series lead.

Washington’s season will be on the line when the team takes the field for game four of the series tomorrow, Saturday, September 9, at 6:05 p.m. Brian O’Keefe will take the hill for Washington.

BOX SCORE: No box score is available yet for the game, because of technical issues in Florence.
