Clinton, Pennsylvania native, South Side Beaver graduate will become third former Wild Thing in the FL's Hall of Fame

WASHINGTON, Pa. (June 1) - Today the Frontier League announced its Hall of Fame Class of 2018 that will be inducted during the All-Star Break ceremonies in O'Fallon, Missouri, Wednesday, July 11. Scott Dunn, who pitched five seasons in the league, including one in Washington, will be inducted as part of a class that includes five players, a significant moment and a special contributor. Dunn pitched four seasons in Traverse City before finishing his Frontier League career with the Wild Things in 2014.

Dunn, once officially inducted, will be the third former Wild Thing to be in the league's Hall of Fame, joining pitcher Aaron Ledbetter and outfielder Chris Sidick.

"Scott was the backbone of a special 2014 season as a Wild Thing. Though he only spent one season in Washington, it was full of memories for him and his family," said vice president and general manager Steven Zavacky. "We appreciate all he gave to our organization and are happy to celebrate him as a Frontier League Hall of Famer."

A Clinton, Pennsylvania native and 2005 graduate of South Side Beaver High School, Dunn would play at Marietta College and Slippery Rock University before entering professional baseball. He was drafted in the second round of the 2010 Frontier League Draft by the Traverse City Beach Bums, whom he played for from 2010-2013 (four seasons). He then was traded to Washington in the offseason prior to the 2014 season.

In his five seasons in the Frontier League, Dunn amassed 445.1 innings and sported a career earned run average of 2.83. His 38 wins are the second most in league history behind Ledbetter and in front of Andy Clark and Perry Cunningham, who both won 37 games in their Frontier League careers. Dunn's career record was 38-15 and he also had 10 career saves. He struck out 307 batters in five seasons.

His best season came as a member of the Beach Bums in 2013, as he went 15-1 with a 2.61 ERA in 124.1 innings. That season, Dunn started the Frontier League All Star Game for the East Division, and he was, at the end of the year, named the league's Postseason All Star Pitcher as well as the Brian Tollberg Award Winner (Pitcher of the Year).

In 2014, Dunn was 8-5 with a 3.28 ERA and helped the Wild Things to a playoff berth, the franchise's first, at the time, since 2007.

Current Wild Things manager Gregg Langbehn, who was the manager in Traverse City during Dunn's tenure there, said he is not surprised Dunn is being honored as part of this year's Hall of Fame class.

"Scott was about as intense as I've ever had for a pitcher. He had the cliche bulldog mentality and he came in as more of a thrower but learned how to pitch," said Langbehn. "He deserves [this honor]. He was a great guy to have around. He always showed up, did his work, was always on time and never complained, and he was about as reliable a pitcher as you could have."

The 2018 Frontier League Hall of Fame Luncheon and Induction Ceremony will be held on Wednesday, July 11 at 11:30 a.m. at the Trigg Banquet Center in O’Fallon, Missouri. You can read the league's press release from earlier today announcing the class here.
