WASHINGTON, Pa. (June 23) - The Washington Wild Things have signed an infielder that is with the team in Schaumburg and will be active for tonight's game. The team announced it has added former Braves' farmhand and UNC Pembroke standout Jordan Edgerton.

A ninth-round pick of the Braves in 2014, Edgerton most recently played for the Sioux City Explorers in the American Association, which was his third team this season in the league. Edgerton was a target of the Wild Things in 2017, prior to him signing with the Kansas City T-Bones last season.

"We heavily pursued Jordan back in 2017 before he signed with Kansas City. He comes from a great college program and was strongly recommended our way," said assistant general manager of team operations Tony Buccilli. "He is a versatile defender who has an offensive game that fits our style of play. We look to put him in position to succeed and allow him to replicate his prior production."

Edgerton hit seven home runs and drove in 33 runs in 70 games with the T-Bones in 2017 after playing three seasons in the Atlanta Braves organization, where he reached as high as Advanced-A Carolina. In his three seasons combined in affiliated ball, he drove in 155 runs and hit 11 home runs, to go along with 57 doubles.

At UNC-Pembroke, Edgerton played two seasons. The Charlotte, North Carolina native and South Point High School standout hit .392 in his first season in college. That season, he had 19 doubles and nine home runs with 56 RBI. He struck out just 17 times in 266 plate appearances. In his sophomore season, he had 20 doubles and 11 home runs on his way to a .369 batting average. He struck out only nine times that season in 247 plate appearances. He had an OPS over 1.000 in both seasons at UNC-Pembroke.

Edgerton is active for tonight's game against the Schaumburg Boomers, as the Wild Things look to bounce back from a series-opening loss to the defending champs last night. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. Eastern.
