Four-Game Skid Snapped by Washington as It Avoids Sweep in Schaumburg

SCHAUMBURG, Il. (June 24) - After dropping the first two games of the series against the Boomers in Schaumburg Friday and Saturday, the Wild Things salvaged a game in the three-game set by taking Sunday's finale 6-2. The win snapped the Wild Things' four-game skid and ensured Washington will still be alone in first place going into the six-game homestand this week.

It was a four-run second inning that was the difference in the game for Washington, as the Wild Things struck first and added on three times in the frame. Catcher Kyle Pollock got the inning started with a double, which extended his on-base streak to 21 games. After an infield single by first baseman Reydel Medina and a pop out by right fielder Hector Roa, third baseman Mike Hill plated Pollock with a single to open the scoring.

A batter later, designated hitter Jordan Edgerton doubled home Medina for his first Wild Things' RBI. Then, shortstop Brett Marr scored Hill with a sacrifice fly to make it 3-0, before Edgerton scored on a wild pitch by Schaumburg's starter Will Stillman.

Schaumburg plated two runs in the bottom of the third, which were the only tallies against Washington right hander Chase Cunningham on the day. Cunningham, who is now 2-2 after the win, tossed seven innings and allowed only three hits and the two runs. He walked two and did not strike out a batter.

With a base hit to center in the middle stages of the game, left fielder Roman Collins extended his road game on-base streak to 21 games, meaning he's reached safely in every road game this season.

In the ninth, center fielder James Harris singled home two insurance runs for Washington and, in the process, extended the longest hitting streak in the Frontier League to 17 games. The single brought the contest to its final of 6-2.

The Wild Things return home for six games starting Tuesday against the Windy City ThunderBolts. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
