WASHINGTON, Pa. (July 1) – Thomas Dorminy dominated the Schaumburg Boomers Sunday evening as the left-hander twirled a complete game shutout to help the Wild Things take game three of the series 4-0. The former San Diego Padres’ farmhand allowed just three hits, a walk and a hit by pitch while striking out five batters as he improved to 6-2 and lowered his season ERA to 2.19.

The Wild Things’ offense jumped out to a quick start in the bottom half of the first inning. Second baseman Carter McEachern reached on a single with one out, stole second base and then was driven in on a single to center field by left fielder Roman Collins to put Washington up 1-0 early.

Washington (27-18) tacked on to the lead in its ensuing at bat when shortstop Brett Marr lifted a sacrifice fly to left to bring in designated hitter Jordan Edgerton to bring the score to 2-0. Kyle Pollock helped extend the lead to 3-0 in the third with an RBI double that scored McEachern.

That would be all the run support that Dorminy needed, as he allowed just five base runners across his nine innings of work. Schaumburg (23-21) only had one inning where more than one batter reached base, when third baseman Kenny Towns was walked and right fielder Zack Weigel was hit by a pitch in consecutive at bats in the second inning.

Pollock added a run of insurance in the bottom of the eighth inning with his second RBI-double of the day, this one scoring Collins, to bring the game to its final of 4-1.

McEachern, Pollock and first baseman Conner Simonetti each recorded two hits during the game, and Collins had one hit, two stolen bases, an RBI and a run scored.

Schaumburg starting pitcher Payton Lobdell (1-4) was solid in the game, tossing six innings and allowing just three runs on six hits and two walks.

Washington will be off on Monday before traveling to Florence to take on the Freedom for a three-game series starting Tuesday evening. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
