WASHINGTON, Pa. (July 7) – Washington starting pitcher Thomas Dorminy had an impressive evening on the mound, fanning 10 batters during his 7.2 innings of work, as the Wild Things rolled to an 8-3 victory Saturday night. The win broke the Otters’ three-game win streak and moved Washington to 29-21.

The Wild Things struck first in the game, collecting four runs on two hits in the bottom of the second inning. In the second play of the frame, third baseman Mike Hill opened the scoring with a single to plate right fielder Hector Roa. Shortstop Brett Marr’s two-run triple drove in Hill and first baseman Conner Simonetti before an error by Evansville’s second baseman allowed Marr to score on the same play for the early 4-0 lead.

The Otters (26-22) got on the board in the ensuing inning with a hit from shortstop Toby Thomas that plated first baseman Joe DeLuca. A two-RBI single off the bat of designated hitter Jeff Gardner brought the Otters within one run. All three runs in the inning were unearned.

Catcher Kyle Pollock added another run in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI double that brought left fielder Roman Collins across home plate, extending the lead to 5-3 in favor of Washington.

After two scoreless innings, second baseman Carter McEachern lifted a sacrifice fly to left field to plate Marr. Then, later in the game, back-to-back RBI doubles from McEachern and Collins in the bottom of the eighth cemented the final score at 8-3 Washington.

Dorminy got the win tonight, allowing only three unearned runs on seven hits. Zach Strecker relieved Dorminy for 1.1 innings with a four-out save, his 11th. Evansville’s starter Austin Nicely took the loss and allowed six runs on seven hits, walked four, and struck out four.

Marr lead the way offensively for Washington out of the nine hole, finishing the night 3-4 with two RBI and three runs scored.

The Wild Things and Otters are back in action tomorrow for a rubber game. First pitch is set for 5:35 p.m. at Wild Things Park.
